Fat Sacks?

Fat Sack are a hemp blend storage sacks for hikers, climbers, snowboards, moms, dads, boys, girls, suits, earth lovers, truck drivers, hybrid owners....Anyone who has stuff to store and/or organize in a backpack, purse, messenger bag, anything.

In addition to the long list of outdoor uses, you can also store: Cameras, cell phones, toiletries, makeup, mp3 players, headphones, PDA's, chapstick, and general clutter. Keep in mind that Fat Sacks will only help prevent these items from getting scratched and will not protect them from shock or other damage. We are working to design some protective type sacks. Please check back for details soon.

Why should I buy a Fat Sack over any other brand stuff sack?

Because they are less polluting to our planet than nylon stuff sacks. Our bags are not 100% organic...yet. We are working diligently to continue improving our products. Right this minute we are finding ways to make our bags better and even more evironmentally friendly. As we write this we are working on improvements such as labeling our products with organic materials, and using smaller cord-locs to decrease the use of petrolium based products. Even the drawstring on your Fat Sacks can be recycled as a zipper pull for your jacket zipper, sleeping bag zipper, or whatever else you can think of.

Are your bags water resistant?

Not at this time. We are working on this feature. But if you are storing your gear filled sacks in a water resistant backpack, you don't need them to be.

We are a fledgling business with a limited budget, but your support and purchases go to the development and capital needed to make such technologies available to our customers. So purchase a bag or two so that we may continue to bring you the most cutting edge eco-friendly products that we can, as soon as they become available.

Until then go, down to your favorite backpacking store and buy a spray bottle of Nikwax and spray it on your bags. This will assure that your bags are as water resistant as possible until we can provide that for you. We are getting there.

How do I clean my Fat Sack?

Dude!!! It's a Fat Sack!!! It's made to be dirty in the outdoors!!!! But if you decide you really need to wash it, hand wash it in cool soapy water, then rinse and hang dry. It does have cotton in it so if you dry it in a dryer, it will shrink a tad. With continued use the fabric will stretch back out over time.

Go to: www.fatsacks.biz for products and info.

Why Hemp?

Why Hemp?

A better question is, “Why not nylon?”

Most stuff sacks are made of nylon fabric. Nylon is a synthetic material that was designed to replace Asian silk for military parachutes when the U.S. entered WWII in 1941. Nylon was the first commercially successful synthetic fiber to be made entirely from coal, water and air. It was initially used for things like rope, tires, flack vests, and military uniforms. Now, nylon is used in millions of products around the world. Nylon fiber is more than twice as strong as hemp and weighs 25% less.

Typically a backpacker carries in his/her pack things like a head lamp, rope, a GPS, energy bars, clothing, toilet paper, water filters, etc. Many backpackers organize those items by placing them into multi-colored stuff sacks before stowing them in their backpacks.

That being said, do we really need stuff sacks to be “twice” as strong? Hemp is a strong fabric, far stronger than what is needed for those applications.

And, do any of those things need to be in a non-biodegradable, fossil fuel consuming, landfill occupying bag that is “twice” as strong as hemp?

No, absolutely not. When you are ready to dispose of your Fat Sacks stuff sack it will go to the landfill like any other refuse, where instead of it contributing to the pollution problem, it will decompose naturally, unlike nylon and most other man-made products. In addition, hemp requires no chemicals or industrial processes for production, and we use natural dyes that don’t pollute the earth.

Ok, so our bags are not 100% organic. However, when you are ready to dispose of your bag, use the cord from your stuff sack to make zipper pulls for your backpack, fanny pack, or jacket zipper. Or use it to keep rope bundled, or lash something to your pack. Hey, you have just recycled part of your bag!!!!

"I need my bag to be made of waterproof material!!!"

Unless you buy bags that are specifically made for paddling and watersports your stuff sack is not waterproof. Even if the stuff sack is made with waterproof material, it still has a hole in the top of the bag, making it only water resistant. Fat Sacks can be treated with an environmentally safe wax waterproofing treatment like Nikwax® making the bags highly water resistant.

"I can't afford to carry heavier equipment!!!"

Fat Sacks weigh about an ounce each. For our kids' sake and our kids' kids' sake we need to use some discretion and take into consideration the effects of our actions . . . affecting what will be tomorrow.

Fat Sacks. The Original Hemp Stuff Sack.

Fat Sacks Co.

Fat Sacks - Hemp Stuff Sacks For Backpackers!!!

www.fatsacks.biz

Fat Sacks on Myspace!!

About Us

Fat Sacks is a fresh business with a fresher attitude.
